4 Hudson Valley Parent n Spring 2020 award- winning app that provides free games and learning activities for ele- mentary school students. Spreading the love of reading can be tough when kids would rather pick up a tablet than a book. That's where Raz-Kids swoops in. This award-winning app is one of the best online reading programs for students in kindergarten through fifth grade. Kids can practice reading from more than 400 e-books at 29 differ- ent difficulty levels. Personalized learning is key with the free Khan Academy app. This non-profit orga- nization provides lots of free education- al exercises, videos and a personalized dashboard for your child's learning so your kids can study a variety of subjects at their own pace. Another teacher favorite is Lexia Core 5, an app that specializes in helping students read and spell at their own pace, while developing their skills. It also provides teachers with vital information that identifies problem areas. Michelle Peterson is a freelance writer who lives in Poughkeepsie.
