Stomping Through the Weeds n Hudson Valley Parent 31 AUTHOR'S NOTE: Many kinds of plants go to seed in the spring or summer, so those plants will not have seeds on them now. Due to different weather conditions throughout an area, some plants will have seeds, while others of the same species are still flowering. It's interesting to go back a week later and see what has changed in the spot you have looked at. You might want to write down where you took your pictures so you can compare. WARNING: There are only two poisonous plants you are likely to encounter this time of the year. Poison ivy has three leaflets, as shown, often grows as a vine, and has white berries. Do not touch any part of the plant, as it can cause a skin rash in sensitive people. Asian bittersweet does not cause a rash, but the yellow berries (and the red seeds that you'll see in winter) are poisonous and should not be eaten. Never eat any berry or plant unless you know what kind of plant it is and you are sure it is safe.
