From action packed family fun days to romantic date nights, wineries are a great option for families. These five Hudson Valley wineries are great for families: Brotherhood Winery. 100 Brotherhood Plaza Dr., Washingtonville. 845- 496-3661. brotherhood-winery.com Brotherhood Winery is famous for having made wines for churches during the Prohibition era. The winery provides tours and has large grounds families can walk around. They have live music on the patio during the summer, as well as a wonderful French restaurant, Vinum Café, for the more formal dinner date. Bashakill Vineyard and Winery. 1131 South Rd., Wurtsboro. 845- 888-5858. bashakillvineyards.com Bashakill Vineyard makes organic wine from unusual grapes, the Noiret and the Cayuga White. These grapes are better equipped to handle our region's climate and geology… they also taste great. On September 29, Bashakill Vineyard will host a benefit for the Bashakill Area Association, an organization that protects the Bashakill wetlands and surrounding area. The kids will have a blast watching Bill Streeter of the Delaware Valley Raptor Center demonstrate the agility of his birds of prey while eating delicious brick oven pizza provided by the winery. This September, the winery will host two great events your children will be begging you to attend. On September 21, Palaia will host a Harvest Festival. The event will include gourd decorating, hay rides and apple bobbing. Watch pumpkins hurl through the air and see how far you can throw a pumpkin at their Pumpkin Chucking event on September 28. Your family can have an informal dinner at the vineyard while listening to great music. The Applewood Winery will have apple picking for the entire family each weekend in September. The winery also has outdoor music during the summer. The Warwick Winery and Distillery will have apple picking set up for families to enjoy every weekend in September from 11am-6pm.
