The brewery has a warm, rustic yet elegant decor and the food is cooked from as close to the source as possible, includ- ing artfully crafted ales. For them, this means commitment to the amazing farmers, cheese makers, and other artisans that make the Hudson Valley such an amazing place to live. I recently took my friend there for a fun birthday lunch. The menu was well balanced, with many different eclectic flavors. Appetizers: To start, we chose the specialty of the house, called Panda Poutine, which was described on the menu as House Belgian fries (house cut and cooked in duck fat) with smoked short rib gravy, local cheese curd and pickled jalapeno. The fries were crispy and delicious and the gravy was hot and well-seasoned. With so much richness, the jalapenos were a welcome bite to cut the fat; spicy and flavorful, this was a great start to our meal. Our next appetizer was easily the best part of the entire meal: the Fried Calamari Salad. This salad was well-seasoned, the calamari tender and flavorful. Entrées: We chose the Merguez (lamb and pork) sausage, a North African spicy sausage that came with tzatziki, baby arugula, and piquillo peppers on a brioche bun. The flavor was moderately spicy, well-seasoned and the Tzatziki sauce was the perfect pair, as it added a nice cooling element to the spice of the sausage. Next we chose the BBQ pulled pork sandwich, described as a 16-hour-smoked pork shoulder, smothered in Kilt Spinner BBQ sauce, apple fennel slaw, Kosher dills on a Brioche bun with Old Bay chips. The real star of this dish was the chips! Made in-house, the flavor was unbelievable. Dessert: When I told the server I wanted something that would blow my mind, he laughed and recommended the Warm Chocolate Stout Cake. This cake was unbelievable! Made with bittersweet chocolate sauce, crème an- glaise, pretzel crunch and whipped cream, it was tender and moist and had the perfect hint of beer. For the quality of food we were served, the prices were excellent. Mill House also has a nice children's menu, making it a lovely choice for either a family meal or fun night out!
