Jill Morris of Saugerties says this is one of her favorite places to bring her family. "There is a nice trail with picnic spots along the way." Families must walk along the trail from the parking lot to reach the pic- nic tables, which are on the water- front along the trail. There are also picnic tables and benches directly outside of the lighthouse, with steps leading into the water for those who might want to take a quick dip after lunch. The beautiful views, the secluded and serene trail, and the overall cool factor of eating outside of an actual working lighthouse make this one a hit! A word of caution, though, check the tide tables before walking, as portions of the path get covered with water during high tide. A more unconventional picnic spot is Robibero Family Vineyards in New Paltz. For Jennifer Bredin of Beacon, the location makes perfect sense. "I can have a glass of wine, or a wine tasting flight," she says. "The kids can bring a ball and play with the other kids that come with their families, and everyone has a good time!" The vineyard also often has live music, adding to the festive atmo- sphere, and the views of the Shawa- ngunk Mountain ridge add to the complete sensory experience. Orange County No place in Orange County combines fun for kids with scenic vistas for parents quite like Bear Mountain State Park. Featuring a zoo and a merry-go-round for the kids, as well as offering swimming and a large field for playing the kids will be occupied for hours.
