When we were kids, she'd care for her baby dolls while I was busy playing in the dirt. Each doll had a name, a story and Meghan's unconditional love. So this April when Meghan called me to announce her first pregnancy, I was elated. Hearing the joy and pride in her voice was enough to make this tomboy tear up as she announced, "I'm pregnant!" I'm so happy she's shared every step along the way with me. Although we now live 12 hours apart, Meghan constantly texts me asking for input on baby names, nursery decor and even emails me ultrasound pictures! Meghan has that expecting mom glow and a new, unwavering confidence in herself. I'm so proud of her. She's going to make a great mother. I hope by reading this issue Meghan, and new moms alike, find inspiration and courage to tackle everything motherhood throws their way. In this issue No mother wants to see her newborn clinging on to life, but for one Wappingers Falls mom, this horrible scene was her reality. After giving birth to her son, the doctors swept her baby out of her arms and into the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. After days upon days in the NICU, Jennifer found her way around and now has a great story of survival that she shares with us. Love your body Pregnancy can do strange things to women. From the weight gain to the midnight cravings, our bodies are wreaking havoc! Gaining weight during pregnancy is inevitable, so don't beat yourself up over it. Personality psychologist and mom of two, Heidi Smith Luedtke, tells us how to love our bodies during and after pregnancy. Wives Tales You're going to give birth to Sasquatch! Okay, even though heartburn during pregnancy doesn't exactly lead to hairy babies, it's fun to pretend. We've collected twelve of the funniest wives' tales you'll hear while you're pregnant. Some of the wives tales are so far fetched, you just have to laugh. Other tales are so ingrained in our culture that you may not even realize they are totally bogus! Giveaways Another great feature of our Baby Guide is the giveaways! We've compiled the must-have products and books for new moms. From bottle warmers to top of the line car seats, we have it all. We even have 6 must-read books! Win these great prizes at: hvparent.com/baby-guide-contests Editor's Journal BRITTANY L. MORGAN Welcome to the world Weston! Weston Jarrell's 6 month ultrasound.
