Every kid is precious. But giving each child the in-
dividualized support that he or she needs to live as
fully, independently, and happily as possible isn't al-
ways easy, especially when it comes to kids with special
needs.
Fortunately, the Hudson Valley offers a full spectrum
of children and family programs that support kids of all
abilities at home, in school, at parks and playgrounds,
and when they're otherwise living their everyday lives.
This issue presents a few of those programs.
As Rielly Grey, a local mom of a young son with
autism and HVP blogger said in a recent post
-shared,
in part, in this issue-"If
we focus only on the diagnosis
and its limitations, then we could miss the wonderful
child in front of us. Especially with recent advance-
ments in therapy and assistive aides, children with
special needs are living fulfilling lives without missing
out on anything as compared to typical peers. So, please
don't apologize when you see a child in a wheelchair or
using special equipment. These aides allow our children
to be capable and independent. And more importantly,
our children are not their devices or their diagnosis."
