your day-to-day, while achieving the
outcomes you desire."
Kristen Brown, co-owner of Historic
Brown Family Farm LLC in Walden, prac-
tices planning with flexibility. She and
her husband are the fifth-generation
owners of the farm, which was estab-
lished in 1820. The couple's eldest child,
a daughter, 4, recently learned how to
bottle-feed a calf, which makes three
generations of the family now work-
ing the farm, including her in-laws. The
Browns also have a son, 2.
Unexpected events — like having to
chase an errant cow back home while
keeping an eye on her two kids — can
be tricky, as is juggling her various roles.
"I recently became a councilwoman
(for the Town of Montgomery), and as
an elected official, mom and farmer it's
difficult to juggle everything," she said.
"The cows still get out and I need help
with two kids."
Early on Filomena Fanelli, founder
and owner of Impact PR & Communi-
cations in Poughkeepsie, thought she
could easily integrate her business' and
family's needs, but after six years in the
business, she knows managing both
requires effort.

hood, or even from my car parked down
the block, and time-blocking help me
