have been known to place my cellphone
in another room when playing a board
game with my daughters so that I can
keep that time sacred. It's possible to do
it all, just not all at once."
Ask for help.
While what works well for some wom-
en might not for others, Fanelli said.
"Some families have a structured
schedule, while others wing it," she
said. "What I've found most helpful is
bringing in help, whether that's from a
supportive partner, an older sibling or
another family member. No person can
do it all alone. Moreover, if you work as
part of a team, lean on
them and be willing to
return the favor. A good
transparent conversation
can go a long way."
Likewise, moms, said
Dunn, can't do it all by
themselves.
"Learn to ask for help
early and often," she said.
"Find the things that can
be delegated or hired out,
freeing you up to focus
your non-work time on
your family. If you sur-
round yourself with the
right people, volunteer
to assist others when you
have the capacity to do so,
and you will build a community of sup-
port around you to find balance."
Focus on priorities.
To ease conflicts in her work and
home lives, Fanelli stays in the moment.
"I've learned to be there when I can
and to forgive myself, and let my hus-
band take the lead role at times, so that
I can be 100-percent present wherever
I am, whether it's with my clients or my
family," she said.
Dunn is sure the choices she makes
align with her priorities.
"Far too often, people end up spend-
ing energy on others' priorities, losing
sight of their own," she said. "A clear list
