hvparent.com n Hudson Valley Parent 3 Benefits of Breastfeeding Not just good for baby, but moms, too! You could call breast milk the ulti- mate, no-purchase, homemade product for your baby. There's no recipe to follow, no ingredients to assemble. Besides that, breastfeeding benefits moms, their babies and the environ- ment, according to the American Acad- emy of Pediatrics (AAP). In fact, the AAP recommends that infants be exclu- sively breastfed for their first six months, with continued breastfeeding alongside the introduction of complementary foods for at least one year. Moms seems to agree, at least at first, that breast is best, for among infants born in 2015 across the nation, the CDC found that four out of five (83.2 percent) were breastfeed at the start, with that number dropping to 57.6 percent at six months and 35.9 percent at 12 months. The CDC reports that based on limited studies, COVID-19 has not been detect- ed in breast milk, but that it's especiallly important to protect yourself and your baby against COVID-19.
