The birds eat rose hips and other
berries, but some of the seeds don't get
chewed up. The seeds stay whole in the
birds' poop. Then the birds can poop a
long way from home. That's how birds
help spread seeds."
"Do other animals eat seeds?"
"Squirrels eat acorns and hickory nuts
and black walnuts. They bury a lot of
nuts and then dig them up to eat during
the winter months. Sometimes they
don't find all the nuts they bury. Then in
the spring, those nuts can sprout and
become baby trees."
Many trees produce acorns. When they
drop from the trees they can sprout.
