Stomping Through the Weeds

Once the milweed pods open, the
silky strands with seeds attached
fly through the air.
"Let me show you something." Willow broke
open one of the pods. Inside lay many flat,
oval brown seeds, neatly overlapping. Each
seed was attached to strands of white silk.
Robin stroked the soft silk. "When the silk
dries out out," Willow said, "it fluffs up. Each
seed has it's own parachute that will take it
on the wind."
"I want to draw the seeds," Robin said.
"Even though they are not red or yellow or
purple, they're still beautiful and silky."
Robin sat on the rock, opened his pad and
began painting.
