As trails are numerous, it is easy to find one that matches your level of expertise and offers a perfect training ground for young families. According to Bill Stelz, president of the Orange County Bicycle Club (OCBC), parents are not really en- couraging cycling much these days, perhaps due to increased motor vehicle traffic on roads, after-school activities, or a lack of spare time. "We see biking as a trifecta of health, mental and social benefits... promoting an active outdoor lifestyle as well as creating happier, better connected communities," Stelz says. "And we are focused on doing a bet- ter job getting kids and their families on bikes." Approach the ride as a family outing with frequent stops and snacks so that kids are eager to participate in the future.
