The Hudson Valley Rail Trail ( hudsonvalleyrailtrail.net) runs for about 4 miles and easily allows bik- ers to get off the trail to enjoy stops in historic sites. Both routes are paved, flat, and away from traffic. The Wallkill Valley Rail Trail ( wvrt.org) is a great next step, as it extends for 24 miles from Gardiner to south of Kingston, offering oppor- tunities to ride through woods and farmland. Views along the way include the Shawangunk Ridge and the Rosen- dale Trestle. As you travel north, the trail becomes somewhat more rug- ged, but leads to a view of Williams Lake. One length of the O&W Rail Trail ( dandhcorridor.org) is the 12-mile Heritage Corridor, which connects the Hurley and Marbletown Rail Trails. While most of it is gravel, it leads into a large bog teeming with wildlife. The D&H Canal Museum is just a block east from where the trail crosses State Route 213. Minnewaska State Park ( mtbproj- ect.com/trail/3640381) is a stunning place to pass the afternoon. With 35 miles of carriage roads (some of which are the only places biking is allowed), you'll cycle past waterfalls and lakes, sheer cliffs and ledges. The trail is probably best navigat- ed by bikers with some experience. The $10 entrance fee also covers swimming, picnicing or rock climb- ing if your family wants to encorpo- rate biking into an all-day adventure. Minnewaska links up with another favorite biking trail, the Mohonk Pre- serve ( mohonkpreserve.org/bike). The 5-mile Undercliff/Overcliff Car- riage Road Loop offers a fairly flat terrain but varied topography, which Evan Hershkowitz, DDS, MPH 1001 Route 376 • Wappingers Falls, NY 12590 www.sevenseaspd.com We'll make your child's dental visit playful, fun, & stress-free! • Specialize in infants through adolescents and children with special needs • General anesthesia available in our fully-equipped suites • State-of-the-art facility offering the latest technology Ahoy, Matey!
