TOP 4 PLACES TO VISIT WITH GRANDPARENTS: L ife moves at such a fast pace that it can be difficult to find time for the kids and their grandparents to spend time together. Forgetting to call or visit loved ones can too easily become par for the course. But even when that happens, grandmothers and grandfathers somehow still know they are loved and cherished. Grandparents can be some of our children's biggest supporters. Many grandmas and grandpas manage to get to every school play, baseball game, recital and every- thing in between. Nana and Pop-Pop always seem to be in awe at their grandchildren's accomplishments and even encour- age when those little ones dare to try new things. When it comes to encouraging confidence and building self-esteem, Me-ma and Poppy usually stand ready and willing to remind their grandkids to do and be the best that they can be - all with unconditional love and affection. There's a lot to be said for the wisdom of elders - especially when it comes to helping teach all about morals and values. A story or bit of advice from grandparents can help children reflect and apply those les- sons to their own lives. National Grandparent's Day - a day to honor grandparents for their contributions to our lives - was first proclaimed a holiday by President Jimmy Carter in 1978 and is celebrat- ed in the U.S. each second Sunday of September. This year, it falls on September 11. Why not make some memories to- gether in 2016 - just as our readers have - and spend the day with the grands? Hugs are very good for the soul.
