By BRILAH HARRIS Three ways to get rid of ticks The environs of the Hudson Valley are a hotspot for ticks, leading to high rates of Lyme disease. So, reducing the num- ber of ticks from your backyard - or eliminating them all together - is essential in keeping you and your family healthy. One of the ways to do this is to make your yard unattractive to the mice and deer that carry ticks. Ask experts at your local garden center what plants will not attract hungry deer in search of a snack. Elevate bird feeders and wood piles from the ground and keep them far away from the outside walls of your home. That way, rodents aren't tempted to come around looking for food and shelter. Keep the tick population away from your home with a three-foot wide "moat" made out of garden stones or mulch at the border of where your yard meets the woods. This creates a barrier that ticks are unlikely to traverse as they risk getting caught up and dried out. The barrier also will signal to humans where not to tread. Just For Women ME TIME !
