notes that while the average student
may be smarter, they lack motivation.
"The sense of academic pride
exists in only the top students," she
says. "Most students believe educa-
tion up to 12th grade is only to get
them into college. Children are not
less intelligent today by any means.
In fact, with technology, they are
quite intelligent."
Role of technology
The increased role of technology in
the classroom is something that every
teacher we spoke to pinpointed as
one of the most significant changes in
Hudson Valley schools over the past
