Along with the direct information, also have the good conversations with spouse and friends, and let them eavesdrop on those. And keep the more explicit conversations to when kids aren't anywhere near, not even asleep. — Elle Key My kids are age 5 so we don't talk about the act of sex, but have started conversations about appro- priate ways to share affection, what it feels like to love someone and empowering them to talk about their bodies openly. — Roxanne Ferber My daughter is 5 and we openly talk about body parts, touching, love, relationships, periods, sharing affection and how babies are made (what happens inside a woman's body). We don't actually talk about the physical act but we do openly and honestly answer any questions she has. — Katie Angel I think it's very important when a child starts asking questions and showing curiosity to provide age appropriate information and create an honest open dialogue. Sex is something that is still looked at as so taboo, just like questions about drugs, and I think the first step is making children feel like no subject matter is off the table. — Meghan Dillon-Mellen 8 I am a Hudson Valley Parent Todd Poteet: The art of teaching BY BRIAN PJ CRONIN 10 K-12 School Guide A special section with some of the best area school programs 12 Sweet treats!
