Although moms and dads can't fathom going on with life after such a loss, I am proof that they can and they will. After I suffered a miscarriage and an ectopic pregnancy, resulting in the loss of one of my fallopian tubes, my husband and I were ecstatic to fi- nally learn we were pregnant shortly after going through both ordeals. At the nine-week mark of our pregnancy in November 2011, we went in for a routine check-up, and to our amazement, were told we were having twins. We were in complete shock and beyond excited. Because both of us are only chil- dren, we always knew we wanted more than one child. We then went home and processed the news, and by Christmas we were sharing the wonderful news with our friends and family in cute "Pinterest-style" ways. Life can go on… A mother of twin boys shares a story of loss and healing Things go right, then wrong The pregnancy was going fabulously. At our routine 18-week anatomy scan, we were told the sex of our ba- bies - we would be welcoming two boys. We were ecstatic. But those feelings became much more compli- cated with what happened next. A team of doctors came in and were examining me. They told me I appeared to be in labor. What? I thought. I didn't feel any different and wasn't experiencing any pain. How could this be? The doctors told me that I would have to deliver the twins at a hospital with an appropriate neo- natal intensive care unit (NICU), as there was a greater chance for complications and they wanted to be prepared. I remained on bed rest until week They were only two days old when little John- Carlo, pictured above, lost his twin brother.
