E ach November, as the leaves fall and the family gathers around, I am reminded again of all the things I have to be thankful for in the beautiful Hudson Valley. This year, as the world around us starts to feel so dreary at times, it is even more important to take the time to look at your life and your family and give thanks. This year, as I reflect on my life and all that has changed in the last few months, I realize that I have more to be thankful for than ever. I am thankful for each new day and all of the friends that have come into my life in the past year. I am thankful for new additions to the family and celebrations of love that are approaching. I am thankful for the opportunity I have been given to work at a place where I can grow as a person, make a difference in my community and have a spectacular team around me while I do it! As a member of the Hudson Valley Parent crew, I am thankful for the chance to get to know the community I have grown up in, in a completely new way. As I take the time to think about all that has changed for the better, I am also reminded of the things that will remain the same. A healthy family, supportive friends and the presence of heart-warming holiday traditions will always make me say thanks. I will always love this time of year because of the family filled traditions that come with it. Growing up, my favorite memories of fall were spent in the kitchen with my mom, making endless amounts of her famous pumpkin pie. When I was young, my job as "Mommy's little helper" consisted of licking the bowls after the pies were done and admiring my mom as she made what seemed to be magic in the kitchen. As I got older, my job advanced from Chief Spice Measurer, to Lead Stirrer and recently I have taken over the whole operation. My mom has happily taken over my old job of licking the bowls and I am just as happy to have such an integral part in our family's holiday traditions. Traditions and family togetherness is something to always be grateful for. Keep a tight hold onto the old ones and make room each year for a new one to grow. My fiance and I are beginning to make our own holiday traditions that will last as we build a family based on the incredible models our parents have set for us. November and the approaching holiday season will always stand as a reminder to step back and appreciate the little things, old and new. I am hopeful that this year I can keep this grateful attitude spreading all year long, and not just during these fleeting autumn moments. Enjoy the wonders of the Hudson Valley and your growing families this fall with a happy heart and hope for even more to be thankful for tomorrow. What are you thankful for?
