The Lains' commitment to
sustainability runs deep and wide:
they even have a family reunion
for hundreds of members of their
scattered clan on the farm every fi ve
years. The farm also hosts a summer
camp for children ages 4-15, focus-
ing on outdoor skills, nature study
and folklore.
Lain says his fondest wish is not
just to have his children involved in
farm life, but to give every child that
opportunity. "I wish every child had
an opportunity to run around and
enjoy the farm," he says. "I feel that
so many children are divorced from
it. It's a loss not only for them but
for the earth."
