A s if I needed another excuse to be thankful for my mom, Mother's Day is this month! At a very young age, I became attached to my mother's hip, toddling behind her everywhere she went. As I got a little older, I can remember wanting so badly to be just like her. She was funny and bright and made killer grilled cheese sandwiches. She sang opera music while she vacuumed, her hair was big and her smile was bigger. I couldn't be convinced that anyone had a better mom than me. Though I struggled through teen years filled with angst and clothes from Hot Topic, my mom was always on my side and let me express myself however I wanted. Now that I have grown my hair out and hung my punk rock clothes up for good, my mom and I have become best friends. So much has changed within the last year for me and she has been a bright light during many stressful days. I honestly don't know what I would do without my mom. I'm getting older but I feel like I need my mother now more than ever. I don't need her to tie my shoes or brush my hair or make me lunch anymore (although I welcome any sandwich she makes) but I count on her for having the answers to my bigger questions now. And she always does. Though I don't have any kids of my own yet, I am lucky to have tons of wonderful women in my life as my role models when it comes to motherhood. Besides my own mother, I have a sensitive Nana, a cheerful Grandma and a strong future mother-in-law. They all raised beautiful families and deserve a little extra love on Mother's Day and every day! Moms do so much and deserve to be celebrated. They are constantly juggling a million things and wearing different hats. Chauffeur, chef, mentor and professional boo-boo kisser are just some of the jobs moms do every day. Where do these everyday superheroes manage to hide their capes? How are you celebrating this Mother's Day? A delicious brunch at a local Hudson Valley hot spot? A homemade dinner cooked by your favorite people? A spa day with your other mommy friends? Maybe you rounded up the family for a day at one of the awesome events highlighted in our calendar! Whatever you decide, make sure it is super fun. You deserve it! May is all about Mom here at HV Parent, too! To celebrate the special ladies in our lives this month, we've included recipes to help make their days spectacular. Pretty flower bagels, fruit displays and delicious chocolate treats are guaranteed to put a smile on your mom's face today and fill her heart with memories for years to come. Plus, check out our New Mom Comic this month for a laugh that all mothers can relate to! Celebrate the wonderful women in your life. Whether it's your mom, aunt, grandmother or best friend, take the time to show all the mamas how much they mean to you! Let's hear it for Mom CASSIDY BRIGHTON Editor's Journal
