6 Hudson Valley Parent n July 2019 T wo years ago, I introduced myself as the newest member of the Hudson Valley Parent team. Since then, we have put out twenty-four issues, created guides filled with hundreds of schools, doctors and events, hosted events of our own and attended even more, and worked with amazing businesses and incredible families and kids that have graced our covers. I have gone from the new kid on the block to a seasoned expert on all things HVP as new team members have joined us and old friends have moved on to explore other adventures. I have absorbed the wisdom of my beloved co-workers and boss that have been in this game for much longer than me and have listened to our amazing readers in the hopes of giving you what you want from our publication. Each month, we distribute a magazine that we are proud of and we hope you love it. This month is no exception. The pages of this magazine are filled once again with things we know our audience will be excited to read. We heard from a mother of teens and an expert on how to deal with video game addiction; a real issue some teens face today. We also spoke with moms and administrators about safety in schools and how to prepare children for emergencies. An education guide filled with the best schools and a note from a family farmer make this issue something that all parents can find useful. Of course, summer means that our calendar section is overflowing with daily events and weekend inspiration for families with children of all ages. One of my favorite parts of working for Hudson Valley Parent has been getting to know the cover kids and their families. This month's cover kid is very special! In March, we teamed up with Abilities First to present the "My Abilities are Super" Cover Kid Search and we were delighted to meet all of the amazing and capable kids that wanted to be a part of it. At the event I met our cover kid Deskin and his family and was lucky enough to interact with them again during a sunny photo shoot at Dutchess Stadium. We spoke with his parents and the moms of other super kids that we met at the event. They shared their heartwarming hopes for their children in a special photo spread this month. Each month, I am thrilled to see a new issue on my desk in the morning. And I am excited to get started on the next great issue! Thank you for being the best audience and making this job the best!
