When I was a child, gardening with my father was one of my favorite ways to spend a sunny day. Recently, I have found out that gardening is also a great hobby for some much needed "me time." Right now, my husband and I live in an apartment building, so an overflowing garden isn't possible yet. We do have a beautiful deck though that is the perfect spot for a small tomato plant and some colorful blooms. Because our deck isn't very large, I had to use the space wisely to turn it into an oasis. I started with a trip to Home Depot in search of planters that would hang from the deck. I fastened them with zip ties for some discrete security that will hold up during a summer thunderstorm. The experts in the garden department helped me pick hearty plants that would last in the plentiful sun that shines on the back of our apartment building. For now, our tomato plant is still small enough to thrive in the small pot it came in and sits out of the way on the outdoor table we purchased. Flowers just started to sprout, and two small green tomatoes have made their grand appearance. Once the tomato plant gets bigger, I will replant it into a much bigger pot that matches the aesthetic of our patio furniture and can fit in one of the sunny corners. I am loving watching my garden grow and having a beautiful place to enjoy a tea on a Sunday morning or to curl up with a good book at the end of a long day. home & hearth Cassidy is looking forward to fresh produce from her small tomato plant.
